What is counselling? Counselling is time set aside by you and your counsellor, in a safe environment, to look at what has brought you to therapy. A counsellor will do their best to help you to look at and identify your issues, help you resolve your difficulties to find ways of coping with the aim of helping you to live your life with increased resourcefulness and peace of mind. How can counselling help? Counselling can help you make sense of your experiences, both past and present. Counselling takes courage and will provide the safe, confidential and supportive space where you can feel open to taking risks in exploring what has brought you to therapy. What kinds of issues can counselling help with?
How long will it take? There is no simple answer to this question. It maybe, that six, ten or twenty sessions may feel just right for some people but for some a much longer timescale feels more benificial. It is something that you become more aware of as begin your work. Thererfore the number of sessions you feel you might need is something to discuss with your individual counsellor at regular intervals. Relationship Counselling Relationship counselling supports people to work through the complexity of their relational experience/experiences to help them grow in their relationship/s and in a direction that makes sense for those individuals in their particular situation. Relationship therapy takes place in a safe, holding, nurturing, compassionate space for all people undertaking this work and I acknowledge here the courage it takes to work through difficulites that we can all experience from time to time in our relationships, where we struggle to understand our patterns of behaviours, our reactions and responses to others, our own internal reactions, all of which impact on our relationships and 'the relationship' is ultimately the primary focus of our work. |
